How I know Babies, by heart

Hi! I'm Helen,

As well as being a mum of 3 (now grown children), I am a registered nurse and midwife since 1988. I’ve been fortunate to have engaged with many families in both a volunteer role in Australian Breastfeeding Association and since 2016 as a IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, (the gold standard in lactation qualifications)).

I work with families, helping them to gain confidence with parenting, to solve problems and develop effective feeding plans (breast and bottle) also to discover techniques to help settle and soothe their baby.

I care deeply for parents as they transition into parenthood and aim to provide strategies, support, and encouragement as they begin to connect with their new baby.

I am passionate about families getting the best start in life and I believe that empowered parents are also confident, calm and capable of knowing their own baby, by heart.

Newborns

Offering support to parents, helping them to understand normal infant behaviour and what to expect in the early days.

To develop knowledge and skills with newborn feeding and settling issues, understanding of how to promote healthy relationships within the changing family dynamics.

Breastfeeding

With skills as an experienced IBCLC,

I have extensive knowledge of common breastfeeding issues and can offer evidence-based solutions to help improve or solve many feeding problems. Including but not limited to attachment, milk supply (high/low), breast refusal, flat/inverted nipples, antenatal preparation for breastfeeding and breastfeeding and returning to work.

Settling

I use my knowledge of normal infant behaviours to offer respectful approaches to settling and sleep issues (Neuro protective developmental care).

I promote gentle parenting techniques and personalised suggestions to enhance a healthy sleep environment for infants

and their parents.
